OGDEN, N.Y. – The Spencerport Fire District invites the community to join us for our annual Open House on Sunday, October 11, from 11 AM – 2 PM at Station 3, located at 2588 South Union Street.
This is a fun and family-friendly opportunity to meet the firefighters who serve our community, explore the firehouse, learn about fire safety, and get an up-close look at the equipment and resources our volunteers use every day.
There will be activities for the entire family, with plenty of opportunities for children and adults alike to learn more about fire safety in an engaging, hands-on environment.
We’re also fortunate to have many local partners joining us this year:
- Spencerport Ladies Auxiliary serving cider and donuts
- Gates FD Safety Trailer
- Operation Freedom Ride Animal Rescue
- Roll Over Simulator
- Gates Volunteer Ambulance
- Kids emergency ID cards
- Escape plan station
- Smoke alarm station
- Coloring station
Our firefighters will also demonstrate a vehicle extrication drill at 1:00, showing how we use rescue tools, often called the “Jaws of Life,” to safely remove doors and other pieces of a vehicle in order to free trapped passengers.
Charging in to Fire Safety
This year’s Open House also caps off Fire Prevention Week, held anualy in October. This year’s theme is “Charge into Fire Safety. Safe Charging is a Superpower.”
The campaign focuses on the safe use and charging of everyday devices powered by lithium-ion batteries. From cell phones and tablets to power tools, e-bikes, scooters, and other rechargeable devices, lithium-ion batteries are part of our daily lives. While they are convenient and powerful, they can become dangerous when they are damaged, improperly charged, or used incorrectly.
During Open House, you’ll have the opportunity to learn more about how to safely charge lithium-ion batteries and what warning signs to watch for. Recognizing those warning signs early can help prevent a battery failure from becoming a serious fire.
Firefighters will be on hand to answer questions and share practical fire prevention tips that you can use in your own home.
